Arrive at Lhasa Gonggar Airport and rest at the hotel. Take time to adjust to the altitude which is 3,570 m. Time for free activities.

Day2 Yamdrok Tso

Today we will visit the sacred lake Yamdrok where we will be meditating. Yamdrok is a freshwater lake in Tibet, it is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet. It is over 72 km (45 mi) long.

Lake Yamdrok, Lake Nam, and Lake Manasorova are the three sacred lakes of Tibet. Lake Yamdrok is said to be able to help Tibetans find the reincarnated  soul of the Dalai Lama.

After a Dalai Lama passes away, the senior monks are responsible to find the boy in whom the reincarnated soul of the Dalai Lama has gone to abide. They come to Lake Yamdrok to chant and pray, and throw hada (a piece of silk used as a blessing object) and other holy articles into the lake to get the reflection of the specific location of the Dalai Lama’s soul. The lake is surrounded by many snow-capped mountains and is fed by numerous small streams. It also has beautiful turquoise blue water.

Namtso, which is Tibetan for ‘Heavenly Lake’, is often described as being next to heaven because of its lofty altitude, stunning beauty, pure blue water, and spiritual associations.

It is the highest saltwater lake in the world. Snow-capped mountains and open grassland, dotted with yak herds and local nomads, surround the crystal clear water of Lake Nam, making it one of the most beautiful places in Tibet.

We will be staying at a hotel near the lake for the night.

After that we will head back to Lhasa.

Day5 Potala Palace / Jokhang Temple

Today we will visit Potala Palaca and Jokhang Temple.

We will start our morning  with meditation and after breakfast we will visit Potala Palace.“Potala” means Buddhist shrine, the Potala Palace was built as a gift for the fiancée of the Tibetan King Songtsan – Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty.

Later it became the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas. The Potala Palace stores incomputable antiques, including 8 Dalai Lamas’ holy stupas. The most luxurious stupa is the 5th Dalai Lama’s, which used 3721 kg gold, 52 tons sliver and over 15000 jewels and pearls. The Potala Palace is composed of a white palace and a red palace; the white palace is used for working, the red palace is for religion. People mixed milk with sugar and honey to make a coating for Patala Palace; these materials made the walls bright and stable.

Later we will visit Jokhang Temple a key center of Buddhist pilgrimage for centuries. This temple stores a golden statue of life-sized Sakyamuni, which was  brought by Princess Wencheng of the Tang Dynasty. This statue is considered as Sakyamuni himself, so the Jokhang Temple is the most holy temple for Buddhists. It was built in 647 by Songtsen Gampo and has a history of more than 1,300 years. The temple is the fine product of Han, Tibetan and Nepalese architecture techniques.

Day6 Sera Monastery

We will start our morning with meditation and after breakfast we will have free time. You can rest at the hotel or you can walk around Lhasa where you will  find small shops.

In the afternoon we will visit the Monastery and watch debates among monks on Buddhist  knowledge. The Sera Monastery is the last of the three principal Yellow Sect monasteries built in Lhasa. The debates are unique to this monastery and they facilitate better comprehension of the Buddhist philosophy to the monks. The origin of its name is attributed to a fact that the site where the monastery was built was surrounded by wild roses in bloom.
